J.D. Salinger

...has died.

It's being reported that the legendary author of "The Catcher in the Rye" died of natural causes at his home on Wednesday, January 27th.

He was 91.

For decades, he lived his life isolated from the literary world and his fans. The Neighbors of his hometown in Cornish, New Hampshire rarely saw him and throughout his career he never returned calls or letters from those who read his novels. It was reported that he haven't published a book since 1965 and many are speculating that he left at least 10 novels in his safe - I guess we'll soon find out if this is truth.

Salinger is survived by his wife Colleen, son Matt and daughter Margaret, and three grandsons as well as his ex-wife and mother of their children, Claire Douglas.

  1. had to read this book in school. it was a great read. i wanted to know more about his life and other books. was disappointed in knowing that he wasn't too keen on having fans. he was the main character in catcher in the rye.

not sure if i would read anymore of his books. they might be filled with some sort of spells. he hated his fans and hollywood.

he sure did enjoy the money.

  2. The man wanted to be left alone. Nothing wrong with that. If I could somehow make a small fortune I would disapear too. Hell people suck especially when you have money.

  3. Agree.

You're right. It was a love / hate relationship with Hollywood.

He wasn't down with the fame of it all.

I enjoyed reading Catcher In The Rye and the story behind it (J.D. 's puzzling life).

How did he manage to keep everyone away from him? Fans? Other authors? Publishers?

He kept it close knit and he managed to live stress free until the age of 91?

I'd say it was the greatest way to say farewell to Hollywood.

  4. CITR was a cult classic. Unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons. I don't blame Salinger for hiding out to live his life in peace. Mental illness is a bych wearing 6inch heels ready to stomp on you.

    May he RIP.

  5. I believe that he pretended to have a mental illness so that those cult members would stay away from him and his family.

He knew their true intentions. He knew when to walk away from a troubled person.

After reading this, i was able to spot a trouble person. A person who wanted to become your friend for all the wrong reasons.

they recruit at private schools first and snatch up the top 20 students in public schoools. the women are paid to sell their bodies for fame, a high paying job and better connects (via networking with the elite).
