The Truth About: The House of Dereon Clothing Line

Prior to his assignment with Tina Knowles, Nylund had worked with large-scale retailers and other designers. He was a designer for Tommy juniors and Andy Hilfiger; Tommy's brother. Tommy's brother held a responsibility in running Jennifer Lopez's company JLo.

In addition, Scott Nylund held a responsibility in illustrating the clothing garments for JLo. When his tenure came to an end at JLo, representatives from the Knowles camp, wanted to meet with him.

To date, Nylund is the design director of Beyond Productions, where he assists in the coordination of all three lines — House of Deréon, Deréon and Miss Tina by Tina Knowles.



Q How did you start working with Beyond Productions (co-owned by Tina and Beyoncé Knowles)?

A I got a call to come in and meet with them. I was so excited about meeting Tina Knowles that I prepared a project. We hit it off right away. They offered me an assistant design position before anyone else was hired. Because I've been able to work with them the most [over the past five years], they've become comfortable with my aesthetic. Now I'm the design director. It's wonderful. As Tina would say, I'm her eyes and her ears.

Q What does a design director do?

A [Tina] will start us with a color palette such as red, gray, white and black and we'll fill in the rest. Or she'll come back from London inspired by the English countryside and lion's head door knockers. So we'll go find fabric, inspiration illustrations. Being a director is like being a choir director: You make sure the cellos and violins are playing the same note at the same time -- coordinated and cohesive.



Q Were you involved with Destiny's Child at all?

A I was part of the Destiny Fulfilled tour. It was one of the most amazing times. They were just starting to talk about [Knowles' label] House of Dereon's part in that. We went from song to song. My notebooks from that experience will be on display in the exhibit.

Q Craziest thing you did for that?

A The day before the tour started in Japan, we switched the color of her pants. I had to spend 24 hours gluing all these crystals on. When I saw them onstage, I had a crying moment, because this is exactly what I should be doing right now. I'm so blessed. I have many moments when I have to pinch myself.

Q What's the goal with the exhibit?

A I want kids to see the evolution. There will be illustrations, five or six dresses Beyoncé wore, dresses from my Luther College show and one or two wedding dresses that I've done. It's a testament to education.

Just days after R&B singer Chris Brown made a very public apology for his assault on Rihanna, news has surfaced that the pair checked into the same New York hotel this weekend.

The rumour mill has gone into overdrive after both singers were seen checking in separately into the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Manhattan.

American tabloid, the New York Post has reported that the couple spent the weekend there ‘under a cloak of secrecy’.

Twenty-year-old Brown is banned from seeing Rihanna under a restraining order issued in Los Angeles. However, U.S reports suggest Rihanna had already checked into the hotel.

Uncle "Soul" Ben is creating quite a buzz over in the UK. He's a young composer of Hip Hop Soul and a new member of the Motown family. He's in the process of adding the final touches to his debut album titled "Soul Wash Lesson 1". To date, his EP consist of 6 tracks. A little birdie has revealed that many artist from the states enjoy his private sessions the most. When he arrives on stage, he's marked the by styles from the 60's era. Dead: Author Lynn E. Harris

A pioneer of gay black fiction and a literary entrepreneur who rose from self-publishing to best-selling status, has died, his publicist has said. He was 54.

Publicist Laura Gilmore said Harris died Thursday night after being stricken at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills, and a cause of death had not been determined. She said Harris, who lived in Atlanta, fell ill on a train to Los Angeles a few days ago and blacked out for a few minutes, but seemed fine after that.

Chrisette believes the apology should remain between Chris and his former girlfriend and out of the public eye. “I’m positive that he spoke to Rihanna. Is it our responsibility to decide whether or not him and Rihanna have something between them?” she asked. “It’s not for us to decide whether or not he meant his apology. It’s for her to decide. And that’s what I’m dealing with. Why is there an apology airing on “106 & Park” at 5:30 p.m. 6,000 months later?”

Ms. Jay-Z has been called out by two different R&B ladies for not writing songs she claims are hers. According to Rap-Up magazine, Chrisette Michele revealed that Beyonce's hit single "Ego" was originally meant for her own album "Epiphany" but she decided to hand it over to the Queen B. And here is the shady part: The track is credited to producer Elvis Williams, Beyonce Knowles and Harold Lilly ... not vocal Goddess Chrisette.

Michele says, "It was really scary for me to release my pen because I had written my first album myself. You don't know if they're going to be able to capture your voice the same way that you captured it yourself." Oh Sasha Fierce, that's just not nice, now is it?

The day before that story broke, a video blog post (I think the kids are calling them vlogs, who the hell knows) by Destiny's Child ex-member Michelle Williams and producer Rico Love was published as well. The two discussed the songwriting and production surrounding Michelle's "Unexpected" LP, which seemed super normal. Until they brought up Beyonce's "Sweet Dreams" track and various other songs that Rico wrote for her "I Am ... Sasha Fierce" album.

Rico said to Michelle, "I did 'Radio' and 'Scared Of Lonely,' but I co-wrote 'Scared Of Lonely' with Solange, Lashawn Daniels, and Crystile." Wait ... you didn't say Beyonce, Rico? But ASCAP has her name on the song's credits. You little sneaky wig-wearing diva. All it takes is a few measly scraps of your millions, and these folks are happy to give you a good track.
