Update: Beanie Sigel

The internet is at a buzz. Jay-Z provided a response to Beanie Sigel's honest rant regarding Jay-Z's self centered business moves:

"Well, Beanie Sigel, at the time — and you can look it up if you like, just to be honest — was driving two Bentleys. I don't know how; it's impossible to drive two cars at one time. With his momma in the sticks and selling 800,000 records, I don't know what more you can do for somebody. What people choose to do when they attain of success ... at some point you have to look in the mirror, and look at yourself. Beanie Sigel had a record deal, a record label, and a clothing line — and never went platinum, ever. I don't know in the history of rap has anyone done so much with so little. I don't even know what more can you do for a person at that point. A record deal, that's normal. A record label and a clothing line? If that's not pushing a person, sh-- ..."

Jay-Z how many cars do you have parked in your drive way - that - you don't drive?

Beans Provided the following Response:

"so I gave him a check for $30K and I'm paying a car not for 2200 a month, 3 months later I was like Biggs, what you gon do with that car, let me take that note over, I wanna give it to my mom... 4 months later is was my birtday, we was at the studio, my mom cooked food for everybody, Dame, Jay, everybody, they ate and my mom said let me get the keys to your car, I wanna go downstairs and do something before I leave, but she left with the car. So I'm like, yo, she took the car and Biggs said 'Happy Birthday' just pay the note.. so the issue about the Bentleys, you shot yourself in the foot with that

Now, the record label, you didn't give me a record label, all I did was spend a couple hundred dollars to search the name state property records... I think I paid a couple hundred more dollars for the LLC to license the company, so my record label only cost me $750 to say on a piece of paper that I own State property records LLC, I did that on my own, and what artist was on state property records, so what did you give me

The clothing line I had 20% of state property clothing, It was Me, Jay, Dame and the 2 other Russians that owned Roc-A-Wear owned state property, cuz I gave them an idea, pitched it to Dame at the time, cuz I saw him drawing close to me when him and Jay was going through they thing

You didn't give me the movie, it was a guy from Philly who had the script, I didn't have the money, to put out a movie, I bought him up to Rocafella... we had to switch it up, because he was talking about JBM... you didn't give me the movie, I gave you a script and I didn't make no money off of that. And even on the clothing line... the same reason why you and dame broke up, cuz he was taking all the money from Rocafella and putting it into his other businesses is the same thing he did to State property..."

Jay-Z sure know how to rob Peter to pay Paul and build upon his street credibility in the process...

In Retrospect....

Dude - you forget to mention Amil and the fact that these artist were selected because they have skills.

It becomes a bit frustrated when your work is forced to sit on a shelf.

You can't get paid if you're forced to lay low with only your "celebrity status" to get you by...and your boss is slowing down your process.

Shit - then you realize that you made more money as a artist on a solo label (independent).

I mean how come there's only one sucessful artist on Roca fella records?

    Jay-Z.

Ya'll keep giving him music to roc his career to the highest level.

He's taking beats from Kayne West.

Kayne West career is fading. He stayed on because of his talent and the fact that he knows that beat sequences and can provide jay-z without jay-z having to ask.

Kayne West career is still fading. Just like R. Kelly.

It doesn't matter how many records he come out with. He's still a child molester.

  12. In an interview with CBC radio’s Q, Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) discussed the current state of hip hop, and how it needs to progress through maturity.

“There’s been this reluctance to mature in hip hop and when you do that, you leave the audience very narrow. My whole thing is to expand the audience and the genre of music in any way, because music is music,” he said.

Jay-Z’s rise to success came a long time before his music began to mature. The artist has released platinum albums throughout the 90’s and early 21st century, and with his latest album, “The Blueprint III”, Carter surpassed Elvis Pressley’s record for total number one singles by a solo artist.

Hip hop’s history is so young that many of the artists who popularized it over 20 years ago are still icons of the present genre. The difference is that when they began in the industry they rapped about legitimate struggles in their life at that point, but when they all became millionaires, and continued with the same style and stories, the music lost its authenticity.

“In the beginning, it was at its purest form because everyone was struggling. All great music and all great art, I believe, comes from pain. As hip hop started to get successful, and really successful — you had these guys coming from these neighbourhoods that were now millionaires — it’s tough to draw back to that place [of creativity].”

Jay-Z, who turns 40 in December, performed in London, Ontario on Friday and then headed to Toronto to perform a show at The Air Canada Centre on Halloween night.

  15. When Mikhail Prokhorov reached agreement on the $700 million purchase price for the New Jersey Nets, sources say he immediately sought a sit down talk with part owner Jay-Z.

Jay-Z is a close friend to LeBron James and some believe he could be influential when the MVP becomes a free agent next summer.

“Prokhorov and his people know that the way to LeBron is through Jay-Z,” one high-level source connected to the Russians and Nets said. “From the start, that’s right where they’ve wanted to go.”

  16. Late yesterday morning news in the sports world surfaced that Russia’s richest man, Mikhail Prokhorov, had signed a provisional deal to buy 80 percent of the New Jersey Nets along with half of a Atlantic Yards project, the site of the proposed future arena to house the team in Brooklyn, NY

The surprise blockbuster is a huge win for most parties involved. Current Nets’ principal owner, Bruce Ratner now will have the much needed capital to push forward with his true passion behind his Nets ownership, the Atlantic Yards commercial and residential development without the headaches of managing the franchise. Prokhorov, whose already cherry-picked several NHL players to defect to his Russian league will now become the first Non-North American owner of any major American Sports Franchise, certainly giving him bragging rights amongst its fans. The NBA of course loves it because the very internationally ambitious Commissioner David Stern now has access to tapping yet another foreign marketplace with rising NBA interest.

“Interest in basketball and the NBA is growing rapidly on a global basis, and we are especially encouraged by Mr. Prokhorov’s commitment to the Nets and the opportunity it presents to continue the growth of basketball in Russia,” Stern said in a statement.

However the one party for whom the deal leaves uncertainty is Jigga. Since the deal has yet to be ratified its unclear how Jay-Z interest will be affected. Since he was roughly a 2% minority shareholder on the Ratner team, my inexperience logic would assume along with the sale his percentage too would be liquidated. And although the deal would most certainly mean the Nets would be headed to Brooklyn and increase the chance of the team landing Lebron James it could spell an end to Jay-Z’s dream of “owning” a piece of the first NBA franchise to play its games in his hometown. As I said the details are sketchy and as the press releases and statements come out, I’ll be sure to update the story.

  17. No one knows how Mikhail Prokhorov will spend his money once he takes control of the Nets. What is known is that he has plenty of it. With an estimated worth of $9.5billion, he's Russia's richest man.

In an interview on Fox Business Channel Thursday, current owner Bruce Ratner hinted that Prokhorov, the 44-year-old tycoon who agreed to buy the Nets on Wednesday, could help turn the team into one of the "best" in the NBA.

When asked at the end of the interview if the Nets will try to sign Le-Bron James next summer, Ratner said that Prokhorov's cash could only help.

"I will say that we are committed, as we always have been, to being the best possible," Ratner said, "and I think with Mr. Prokhorov, that's enhanced because it's not easy to run a team in today's world economically, and he will definitely help that."

And if Ratner's opinion matters to Prokhorov, then Nets president Rod Thorn has nothing to worry about once the Russian billionaire - who agreed to purchase 80% of the Nets on Wednesday - takes over control sometime early next year.

"As the principal owner, he will have the ultimate say on who's hired, what trades are done and so on," Ratner said of Prokhorov. "My guess is he will run the team much like I do, which is Rod Thorn is an absolute expert and probably as good a basketball person as there is. So what I did, and I'm sure he will do the same, is listen to what Rod has to say."

Prokhorov is expected to be a hands-on owner who may want to put his own mark on the organization. He experienced success as owner of Russia's CSKA Moscow team, which won a pair of Euroleague titles.

  18. Richest Men In Hiphop (07 List)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE THREE RICHEST MEN IN HIP-HOP FOR 2007:

    JAY-Z (HALF A BILLIONAIRE)

*Annually, our staff does research to compile information for the "Richest People In Hip-Hop List." This year, there wasn't a significant change in income from last year's list with the exception of the top three. Therefore, we present to you, "The Three Richest Men In Hip-Hop for 2007."

With a power move that would make Bill Gates blush, rap mogul Jay-Z has returned to the number one spot for 2007 after losing the number one spot to P. Diddy in 2006.

Jay-Z reclaimed his spot with the sale of Roc-A-Wear to the "Iconix Brand Group," in March of 2007 which netted him $204 million, before taxes. Jay-Z will retain his stake in the company and will continue to oversee the marketing, licensing and product development. Jigga will also receive an additional $35 million dollars in "Iconix" stock if the Roc-A-Wear brand meets certain performance requirements over the next 3-5 years.

Jay-Z also co-owns The 40/40 Club, an upscale sports bar that started in New York City and has since expanded to Atlantic City, NJ. Future plans will see 40/40 Clubs in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Singapore. Roc-A-Fella also distributes Armadale, a Scottish vodka, in the U.S. He is also the president of Def Jam Records in New York.

On October 16, 2006, Jay-Z's commercial spot with Anheuser-Busch aired, featuring his single "Show Me What You Got." Jay-Z will serve as co-brand director for Budweiser Select while collaborating with the company on strategic marketing programs and creative ad development. He will be providing direction on brand programs and ads that appear on TV, radio, print, and high-profile events.

Jay-Z is a part-owner of the New Jersey Nets NBA team paying a reported $4.5 Million. Jay-Z is also interested in relocating the team to Brooklyn.

In October 2005, he was reported in English media as considering buying a stake of Arsenal F.C., an English football team. However, at this point, this is still speculation.

    FINANCIAL BREAKDOWN:

Jay-Z's wealth for 2007 is based on the following: The Rocawear sale (after corporate lawyer fees and taxes applied) is in the $150-$160 million range, his Def Jam salary ($3 million) his endorsement deals ($9 million) his publishing rights ($10 million annually) his annual income from his 40/40 clubs is ($5 million), his income from Armadelle Vodka nets him $13 million yearly, his royalties from "Kingdom Come,' netted him $2 million due to a high royalty rate (despite sluggish sales due to downloading ) and his consultant salary with Anheuser-Busch along with his NBA investment nets him a combined total of $5 million-and his $340 million carried over from 2006 brings the grand total to staggering: $547 million dollars. Highest dollar amount (Rocawear) calculated for overall total.

MultimediaPhoto:Prokhorov jumps to top of Russian richest list, Deripaska tumbles
Video:Norilsk Nickel: Mikhail Prokhorov makes sensational offer
NEW YORK, November 3 (RIA Novosti) - The owners of Brooklyn's priciest penthouses are hoping Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov will snap up at least one of them, The New York Post reported on Tuesday.

The 2.06-meter-tall Prokhorov is set to buy the New Jersey Nets basketball team. As a major shareholder in Norilsk Nickel, he funded the Euroleague champions CSKA Moscow, before selling his stake in the metals giant last year.

"Banking on the Moscow mogul wanting a Brooklyn bachelor pad so he can be close to the Nets' planned new arena, the landlords contacted Prokhorov's representatives last week about their triplexes," the paper said.

One penthouse sits atop an 18-story clock tower and costs $25 million, or more than double the biggest residential sale in borough history, the paper said.

"The second I heard Prokhorov was buying the Nets, I knew this space was made for him because he's known for throwing some incredible parties," the paper quoted developer David Walentas, who lives in the penthouse a floor below and is "more than willing" to embrace the billionaire as a neighbor.

The other is a slightly smaller residence in a new 14-story development within an 85-acre waterfront park now under construction in an isolated area of nearby Brooklyn. The penthouse's price tag is more modest at $7.5 million, the paper said.

Ian Levine, chief operating officer of RAL Companies, was quoted by the paper as saying that the second 4,638-square-foot, four-bedroom penthouse was a "great investment" that should pay dividends once the park was built and also satisfy the party-loving Prokhorov.

"You don't get any better than a 1,000-square-foot roof deck with sweeping views [of the Manhattan and Brooklyn skylines] to hold parties," he said.

According to the paper, both Walentas and Levine said they've yet to hear back from Prokhorov, while a Prokhorov spokesman said he "won't speculate on whether [the billionaire] would be interested."

The highest sale price on record for a Brooklyn home is $11 million for a mansion sold in 2006 in Gravesend, and the highest price shelled out on a condo is $7 million for a 14th-floor loft at the Clock Tower last year, the paper said.

  20. Maybe Fiddy can get him a job with ThisIs50.com, doing recon on people’s baby’s mothers. (It’s a good thing I hardly know any women.) From what I understand, he’s given Beanie Sigel a deal with G-Unit. I heard about it yesterday afternoon, around the time I heard the real reason Sigel is pissed at Jay is because Jay wouldn’t let him take an $800,000 deal with Fiddy a few years ago. Probably around the time he got out of the joint. Which has gotta be the best time to sign a rapper. Their street cred is at an all-time, but their net worth is probably at an all-time low. Suge Knight deserves credit for pioneering this strategy with 2Pac, back in the mid ’90s.

I figured I’d read up on Beanie Sigel being offered a deal with G-Unit and do a post on it today. It is kind of a game changer, in terms of Beanie’s beef with Jay-Z. You know good and well the reason Jay wouldn’t let Beanie go is not because he thought he stood to make very much money from another Beanie Sigel album on Rocafella, but because he didn’t want to suffer the embarrassment of seeing one of his artists defect to the label of one of his rivals. If that was the case, then it was only right that Beanie Sigel be compensated for having his career put on hold like that. At the very least, the label should have gotten behind another Beanie Sigel album, as if it was a Jay-Z album. Instead, he just got strung along for a couple more years, until he was unceremoniously let go, via courier.

  22. French Champagne brand, Cristal has already experienced a decline in sales after Jay-Z denounced the champagne publicly after some racial comments were made by their company. The recession, on top of this denouncement didn’t help the brand at all. Now Cristal is about to recieve another nail in the coffin from Russia.
State-owned Christall Vodka, a sister brand of Stolichnaya, has taken Cristal to court on the grounds that customers will be confused by the similarity. Russia’s copyright watchdog has ruled in favor of Christall, Russia Today reports; Cristal has said it plans to appeal.

The ruling is ironic given the fact that Cristal, which is produced by Louis Roederer, was first created in 1876 for Tsar Alexander II of Russia while Christall Vodka is not even sold there. While Cristal only obtained its Russian license in 2006, however, Christall secured its copyright 30 years earlier.

In France, Christall Vodka lost a similar battle to Cristal, so some see the latest development as revenge. However, Christall’s parent company denies this and says it would be open to allowing Cristal to keep selling if they agree to pay (a lot) for the privilege.

  23. Adrian Wojnarowski : Yahoo Sports - As soon as Mikhail Prokhorov reached agreement on the $700 million purchase price for the New Jersey Nets , sources say his emissaries were relentless in securing something they believed to be of the highest importance for the Russian billionaire: a sit-down with Jay-Z.
It is rare that an owner with such a small controlling interest in a franchise could inspire such dogged pursuit, but Jay-Z is no silent partner with the Nets. Immediately, insiders understood Prokhorov’s plans to woo Jay-Z pushed far beyond the music mogul’s global celebrity and Brooklyn roots. This was part of the Russian’s ambition to become intimately involved in the summer of 2010 and the most valued free agent in professional sports history: LeBron James (notes) .

As the Nets floundered with legal red tape and financial issues that threatened the proposed Brooklyn arena, the threat of Jay-Z and a flashy new building would come and go over the years. Now, it could be a far more real threat than the blah New York Knicks and historic Madison Square Garden.

Suddenly, the Russian’s staggering $9.5 billion fortune and alluring charisma threaten to transform the fledging Nets into a fully loaded weapon again.
